First city grand mosque, KH Hasyim Asy’ari located in Kalideres, West Jakarta. Jokowi inaugurated Jakarta grand mosque April 15th 2017. Here are five interesting facts about KH Hasyim Asy’ari Grand Mosque.
1. Jokowi’s idea
2012, Jokowi served as Jakarta governor and introduced the idea of building a grand mosque. The idea emerged on Idul Adha because Jakarta had not established a grand mosque.
2. Betawi ornaments
KH Hasyim Asy’ari consists of two different floors. The first floor equipped with supporting facilities, office spaces and a function hall. The second floor is praying area and there is also mezzanine floor to accommodate more people. It adorned with Betawi ornaments.
3. Karang Tiri concept
This grand mosque has a unique concept karang tiri, Javanese words for farm(ing) around house. People near mosque can use that space to plant and grow anything. The concept aims to reduce pollution.
4. Its name
Named after KH Hasyim Asy’ari, the founder of Indonesia’s largest Islam organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). Jokowi wish people may reflect nationalism based on principle of Islam “Rahmatan Lil Alamin”, blessing for the whole world.
5. Easy access
Built on a 2.4-hectare can accommodate 12,500 people. People can take TransJakarta third corridor, Harmoni – Kalideres and step out in Halte Pesakih. Take a step a long 100 – 200 meters ahead. You also can take Transjakarta to Rusunawa Pesakih through KH Hasyim Asy’ari.
