Eid al-Fitr will come soon, for those who plan to mudik (exodus season) to their hometown using private vehicles, there are few things to note to help your long trips remain safe and comfortable. These are simple tips on preparing your vehicle for mudik.
1. Checking the Tires
For long trips, either driving car or motorcycle, you need tires balancing and spooring. Both helps to keep your vehicle runs straight. There are few signs that your vehicle needs spooring and balancing, including surface of uneven tires, the position of tire not straight even though the vehicle runs straight and vibration in steering wheel. Along with that, make sure its pressures balanced for whole tires. It can be adjusted to the capacity of your vehicle. Do not forget to bring spare tire just in case you experience dangerous situations.
2. Tune-up
Either you driving car or motorcycle, tune-up is important thing to do before mudik to restore the performance of your vehicle, especially for road holes and higher places on a slope. From its engine (oil, spark plugs, air filters, carburettors) to the electricity checking (storage battery, lights and horn) need to few checks.
3. Tool and First Aid Kit
Make sure you also bring tool kit contains few important repair tools, including jacks, screwdrivers, adjustable wrench, flashlight, cable ties, L keys and other versatile tools to repair your broken vehicle. Moreover, do not forget to fill up first aid kit box with gauze pad, tweezer, scissor, tape, safety pins, masks, clear plastic bags, personal medicines, allergy and pain relief.
