Oktoberfest is the world's largest volksfest (beer festival), having been held since the year 1810. During the event, large quantities of beer are consumed: during the festival in 2013, for example, 7.7 million litres were served.
Oktoberfest began when King Ludwig I married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on 12 October 1810. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities, one of those activities is beer party.
