Find The Largest Sake Collection at Sake+

Sake+, Japanese bar with sake collection.

As the French are with their wine, the Japanese have sake. But you don’t have to go to Japan if you want to enjoy it, because Sake+ boasts more than 100 varieties of sake and sochu (contains 25% alcohol by volume, which is weaker than whisky but stronger than wine and sake) to tempt and delight.

Located right in Senopati area, Sake+ is another culinary venture from the VIN+ group which already gained recognition from the VIN+ restaurant, and claimed itself as the bar with the most sake collection in Jakarta. The bar wants to educate Jakartans about the intricacies, customs, and rituals surrounding this special drink from Japan. Their Japanese head chef has tailored a menu around robatayaki, barbecued dishes that are meant to be shared around the table, a little bit like Spanish tapas.

The feeling of this place is so Japanese, from the major wood material application, the colors, the lamps and many more. In a sense, fancy but homey and humble. From the exterior, the restaurant clearly look strong in the Japanese-minimalist architecture and once you step your feet inside, it's like the heaven for sake lovers. Hundreds of sake and shōchū bottles displayed on stacks of cabinet and glass display fridge.

Traditionally, depending on what the occasion is, sake is served in different glasses. In homage to tradition, when you order sake, you are presented a tray of different glasses that you can choose from. Not sure what to pick? The well-trained staff can help you pick a glass for your tipple.

There is one sake kind you should try here, Ozeki Hana Awaka (Sparkling Flower). It is a refreshing, fizzy, low-alcohol sake. This sake is just perfect as brunch and after-work drinks. Ozeki Hana Awaka has a mild sweetness and acidity.

If you are still struggling with drinking sake straight, the cosmopolitan bar also has an extensive list of special cocktails including their best-seller, Night Jar, a light, refreshing sake cocktail with a combination of elderflower and crème de Cassis, and served with muddled blueberries. Give it a try!
