At that time, the Baiturrahman Mosque still functioned as an imperial mosque with only thatched roofs typical of Acehnese architecture. The mosque building was also a stronghold when the Dutch attacked. After going through various restorations and renovations, now the Baiturrahman Mosque has 7 domes and 8 minarets with a capacity of up to 30,000 worshippers.
