The Ministry of Education and Culture launches Sandiwara Sastra program, a radio play that will revive Indonesian literature in the form of podcast.

The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) through the Directorate General of Culture recently launches Sandiwara Sastra program, a radio play that will revive Indonesian literature in the form of podcast.
Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud), Nadiem Anwar Makarim welcomed the initiation of the program. According to him, literature occupies an important position in the promotion of culture and national character formation.
"Literature is not only a work of art and innovation. More than that, this is a way to raise literacy," he said during a media briefing on the Literature Theater, on Monday, 6 July 2020 via webinar, quoted from the written statement of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
In line with the statement of the Minister of Education and Culture, the Director General of Culture, Hilmar Farid also appreciated the commitment to revive Indonesian literature through artists.
"Radio plays twenty years ago experienced challenges, there were electronic media, television and finally it faded. But now suddenly there is a renewed interest in podcast, and it turns out that local radio still plays a very important role. For me this is a sign that there is an extraordinary commitment from artists to revive literature," he added.
Sandiwara Sastra is a collaborative production between the Ministry of Education and Culture, Titimangsa Foundation, and KawanKawan Media. The program is produced by Happy Salma and Yulia Evina Bhara, and director Gunawan Maryanto.
Meanwhile, the actors and actresses involved included Adinia Wirasti, Ario Bayu, Arswendy Bening Swara, Asmara Abigail, Atiqah Hasiholan, Chelsea Islan, Chicco Jerikho, Christine Hakim, Eva Celia, Happy Salma, Iqbaal Ramadhan, Jefri Nichol, Kevin Ardilova , Lukman Sardi, Lulu Tobing, Marsha Timothy, Mathias Muchus, Maudy Koesnaedi, Najwa Shihab, Nicholas Saputra, Nino Kayam, Oka Antara, Pevita Pearce, Reza Rahadian, Rio Dewanto, Tara Basro, Vino G. Bastian and Widi Mulia.
This program will adapt 10 Indonesian literatures including yakni Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari; Helen dan Sukanta novel by Pidi Baiq; Kemerdekaan short story by Putu Wijaya; Menunggu Herman short story by Dee Lestari; Berita dari Kebayoran short story by Promoedya Ananta Toer; Lalita novel by Ayu Utami; Seribu Kunang-kunang di Manhattan novel by Umar Kayam; Persekot short story by Eka Kurniawan; Layar Terkembang novel by Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana, and Orang-orang Oetimu novel by Felix K. Nesi.
Sandiwara Sastra can already be heard since Wednesday, 8 July 2020 through @budayakita podcast. Until today, there are two episodes that people can hear, Mencari Herman by Dewi Lestari and Catatan Buat Emak from Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk novel by Ahmad Tohari. Each episode lasts 20 – 30 minutes by collaborating with 3 – 4 actresses/actors who act as both players and narrators.
