Starting March 2, 2020, OVO will make top up fee adjustment of Rp 1,000. The adjustment aims to build a sustainable payment system in Indonesia.
From the notification we received on OVO app, a fee of Rp 1,000 applies for instant top up via ATM, internet or mobile banking, OVO Booth, and Tokopedia. And users will be charged 2% of the nominal top up, if they top up via debit card on OVO app. However, top up from Grab drivers is still free.
OVO President Director Karaniya Dharmasaputra explained, top-up fee adjustment is based on competitive calculations. "This fee is very competitive, and is a form of OVO's commitment to continue to support Indonesia's digital payment system that is inclusive and affordable for all levels of society, while still ensuring the quality of services that are trusted and safe for users," said Karaniya.
Karaniya explained, the application of top up fee had also been carried out by other electronic payment system service providers. On the other hand, top up from Grab drivers is still free. "This is to facilitate offline top-up transactions which are still widely done by users, where it is important to increase financial inclusion in the unbanked and underbanked users segment," he added.
In addition, in providing top up services, OVO cooperates with various partners such as banks, and others, where OVO as the hosting company is charged. "We apply this top up fee only to reduce our operational and infrastructure expenses. This step is taken, in accordance with the direction of the regulator to all fintech organizers to start realizing stable and sustainable business model," said Karaniya.
