Book fans in Jakarta should be happy, because DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has inaugurated Jakbook book market on the third floor of Pasar Kenari in Salemba, Central Jakarta. JakBook is the first book market in Jakarta that was established to provide books at low prices. The book market itself is managed by PD Pasar Jaya. There are several bookstore outlets that sell various book types, ranging from educational books to novels.
According to the Jakarta governor, one of the elements that make book prices are expensive is the cost of shop and distributor. While writers and publishers do not necessarily get big royalties. With the existence of Jakbook, Anies wants PD Pasar Jaya to make governance or book trade industry better. The books at Jakbook, both local and imported, are priced 30 percent cheaper than other bookstores.
PD Pasar Jaya is also preparing JakBook in four other markets, including Pasar Perumnas Klender, Bukit Duri Market, Pasar Cilincing, and Pasar Kedoya.
