The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta together with Formula E announced the inclusion of Jakarta E-Prix circuit in the ABB Formula E Championship series 2019/2020 l season. The racing championship with a single-seater electric vehicle will officially be held in the heart of the city, precisely at National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta in June 2020. This plan was announced directly by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, and Chief Officer Formula E Championship, Alberto Longo, at the Jakarta E-Prix 2020 press conference at Monas, Friday (09/20/2019).
"Last July, in New York, I and Alberto discussed the next phase of the plan to make Jakarta the host of Formula E 2020. And thank God, the talks were all completed in August, and this afternoon we have the honor. I convey to Jakartans and Indonesians that the Formula E race in 2020 will be held in Jakarta on Saturday, June 6, 2020 and will take the race track at the National Monument, "said Anies.
According to Anies, the prestigious event is in line with Jakarta's vision of transportation, which uses emissions-free transportation. So it will have an impact on the environment and lifestyle of Jakartans to use sustainable energy-based transportation. In addition, he also explained that the implementation of Formula E would have an impact on the economy in DKI Jakarta. Especially for sport tourism sector, which will provide benefits to the occupation of hotels, restaurants and of course Jakartans economy.
The benefits that will be felt are long-term. Anies asserted that he had signed an operating contract for five years in a row, so that what will invested in 2020 would have a significant impact four years later. The event itself will be carried out by PT Jakarta Propertindo.
